Hi There!
Welcome to the OPUM technologies digital knee application.
Starting Your Program
Your program is designed to start easy and gradually become more challenging over time. Our programs are designed by Physical Therapist and follow the best evidence available today.
However, not all programs are suitable for every individual.
If you experience any significant or concerning pain, please consult your regular doctor or Physical Therapist.
Ready to begin?
Let's get started!
Exercise & Osteoarthritis
Inside your knee joint you have a slippery cushion called cartilage.
This sits between your two bones to help them move smoothly and prevent rubbing.
Over time this cushion can naturally wear down. This is why osteoarthritis is often referred to as "wear and tear arthritis".
After the cartilage has worn down the bones begin to rub against each other. This rubbing causes pain and damage that we refer to as osteoarthritis.
Unfortunately, once this protective cushion has worn away it won’t come back.
Fortunately, there are still plenty of things we can do to help ease the pain, reduce further damage, and improve your quality of life!
Exercise is one of the best ways to manage osteoarthritis of the knee.
Leg exercises help build muscle to reduce the strain put on the joints.
When our muscles are weak more pressure is placed on our joints.
In those with osteoarthritis, this can increase pain and disability.
Muscle building exercises increase the strength of your muscles.
As muscle strength increases, less pressure is placed on the joints which can reduce pain, increase your range of motion, and decrease disability.
These improvements can help increase your quality of life.
By reducing your pain and disability you can increase your quality of life and return to activities you did before your osteoarthritis.
The exercises in this program are recommended by Physical Therapist specifically for people with osteoarthritis.
We will start off gently and build up the exercises over time.
